Your position

Working on electrical, instrument, mechanical and control systems which involve the installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of Vanderlande equipment. These responsibilities will also include calibration and testing of the above-mentioned equipment. Regular corrective and preventative maintenance tasks will also form part of the technician’s duties, as per the maintenance manager’s schedules and shift roster.  It will also comprise of the involvement of the improvement of existing structures and techniques, under the maintenance manager.

Responsibilities

  • Repairing, maintaining, calibrating and operating Vanderlande equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving on Vanderlande equipment.
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of spare equipment if necessary.
  • Monitoring Vanderlande equipment and advising client/customer staff on proper machine process and operation.
  • Respond to all error notifications, errors, alarms, warnings and complaints on Vanderlande equipment and controlling flows and flow disturbances.
  • Analyse data and Vanderlande control system information reports, for use in quality control, modification and calibration.
  • Be able to work fully independently or as part of a team on any maintenance problem.
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers and sub-contractors in the maintenance and repairs of Vanderlande equipment where required.
  • Work in collaboration with off-site Vanderlande technical support via telephone, email, etc. where necessary to achieve optimal machine performance.
  • Prepare and update daily paperwork, as set out by the maintenance manager.
  • Complete corrective and preventative maintenance tasks as set out by the maintenance manager’s schedule and shift roster.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all Vanderlande equipment and attend training courses as required by the maintenance manager.
  • Ensures the transfer of equipment knowledge to other staff.
  • Keep the workplace clean and tidy and observe OH&S procedures at all times.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when working at all times.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Carry out any other maintenance duties the maintenance manager requires where reasonable.
  • Flexibility to take over the work to the next shift team.

  • Take care of company issued tools and report any abuse, miss-use and theft of company equipment and tools.

Skills and Qualifications

  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical skills, with a deep understanding of FMCG equipment and systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing complex machinery.
  • Experiences in workplace safety and occupational health and safety practices, particularly relevant to FMCG operations.
  • Knowledge of quality control procedures and the ability to enforce high-quality standards in FMCG equipment maintenance.
  • Strong analytical capabilities to interpret data, control system reports, and diagnostics for efficient equipment management.
  • Proficiency in maintaining accurate documentation of maintenance activities, incidents, and equipment breakdowns.
  • A customer-oriented approach to minimise disruptions during maintenance activities in FMCG facilities and ensure client satisfaction.
  • Effective communication, both written and verbal, for clear interactions with team members, clients, and external stakeholders in the sector.
  • Experience in process improvement initiatives to enhance service levels, methodologies, and system processes.
  • Knowledge of industry-specific standards, regulations, and compliance requirements relevant to the FMCG sector.
  • Ability to serve as a technical point of contact for inquiries from internal and external stakeholders.
