The Role

Our Financial Management Division (FMD) is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their team for a period of 2 years. This role is responsible for managing the tax and tax related accounting requirements for Mitsui & Co. (Australia) Ltd (MCA), Mitsui & Co. NZ Limited (MNZ), the consolidated group, and its associated entities. The role also provides effective compliance and consulting taxation services to the Mitsui group.

 

Key responsibilities of the role are not limited to

 

  • Review and Preparation of the consolidated tax return and supporting schedules for review.
  • Liaise with the Mitsui group companies to ensure their income tax returns are prepared and signed off by tax advisors.
  • Provide guidance to group companies on any tax issues that arise in consultation with the Head of Tax.
  • Monitor the thin capitalisation position to ensure that the consolidated tax group is not in breach.
  • Maintain the franking account for the consolidated tax group on an ongoing basis.
  • Preparation of income tax return MCA sub-group including all supporting schedules.
  • Preparation of the annual Research and Development Application for the MCA Consolidated tax group with AusIndustry (prepared by an external advisor) and inclusion of relevant R&D claims within the tax returns amendments.
  • Assist with reviewing tax governance framework as necessary to be in line with ATO’s tax risk management and governance review guide.
  • Maintain up-to-date information and advice on matters including Advanced Pricing Agreements (APA), Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) initiatives, transfer pricing and thin capitalisation rules.
  • Co-ordinate and manage completion and lodgement of Country-by-country Reporting (CBC) requirements (including Local File preparation and submission of Master File).
  • Review of quarterly FBT accruals entries and assist the accounting team with accounting and budgeting reporting.
  • Assist Head of Tax and Tax Manager with ATO review and queries, audits and other ATO compliance programs including Pre-lodgement Compliance Review for income tax and GST.
  • Review of business activity statements for MCA other Mitsui group companies as they arise.
  • Provide support, advice, and guidance on any tax issues for MCA relevant divisions, group companies in Mitsui, APBU, and Mitsui HQ.


Skills And Experiences

The Person

You will enjoy working within a successful team of talented individuals and bring your own proven experience to the business and you have the following qualifications, experience and skills:

  • Solid working knowledge of Australian accounting standards, income tax legislation, corporation law and awareness of global developments in international tax.
  • Experience in providing senior management with advice and guidance on tax related matters. 
  • High level business acumen with a demonstrated ability to plan and co-ordinate multiple projects and to meet deadlines.
  • Experience training and/or briefing staff.
  • Ability to analyse tax issues and develop and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to persuade and negotiate effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Intermediate level of IT proficiency with particular emphasis on SAP ECC, Outlook and MS Office including Word and Excel as well as computerised databases and spreadsheet packages.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with an ability to prioritise and co-ordinate work to meet strict deadlines.
  • Competent in the use of tax software programs and experience using CCH Global Integrator is an advantage.
  • Experience in a large tax consulting firm responsible for preparation and/or review of tax returns and tax advice on direct tax matters for clients.
  • Experience in a corporate entity as a senior tax accountant who is responsible for tax returns and internal tax advice on direct and indirect tax matters.
  • Robust experience in accounting and/or book-keeping.
  • Indirect tax experience is an advantage.
