Wood is recruiting for a Project Director to join our Minerals & Metals business in key leadership role. Based in Perth, you will thrive of the challenge of supporting our clients, delivering mining projects globally. This is a permanent role and is available as full-time / part-time basis.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Project Management & Controls, you will:

  • Hold P&L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing and cash collection.
  • Be responsible for delivery of project(s)/program(s)/portfolio to agreed scope, specifications, schedule and budget, for managing change and customer relationships. 
  • Create delivery excellence across an assigned portfolio of projects, which often involves a high level of complexity and risk with multiple workstreams and high financial risk. 
  • Specify and direct the implementation and completion of one or more major projects or programs, including responsibility for managing safety, scope, cost, schedule and risk, and ensuring appropriate reporting and governance is in place. 
  • Provide certainty and confidence to the customer/project sponsor, and robust control of project scope, schedule, cost and risk.
  • Contribute to and review project proposals and plan to establish timeframe, procedures for accomplishing the project, resource requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project. 
  • Ensure adherence to corporate policy and best practice and sets project evaluation parameters. 
  • Negotiate changes to project scopes with the customer and follow Change Management process to identify and approve modifications to scope, cost, schedule and quality.

Your dual focus on both project execution and relationships will be essential.  Anticipating client needs beyond the immediate scope, you will drive delivery leading multiple Project Managers, while working in close partnership with other Wood offices and the client, to add value to the portfolio.



Qualifications

You will be an Australian citizen or be eligible to hold Permanent Residency (PR) to work lawfully in Australia. 

Qualifications: 

  • University degree (bachelors or masters) in relevant discipline or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience 
  • Project Management Professional (PMP), Associate in Project Management (APM) or equivalent certification is preferred

Knowledge, skills and experience: 

Ideally you will have held a similar Project Director role supported by 20+ years of relevant industry experience, including a minimum of 10 years within the Project Management / Project Controls profession.  You will have delivered large-scale and complex EPCM projects in either Minerals & Metals / Oil & Gas sectors, within the engineering consultancy environment.  

In addition, you will:

  • Be a leader of people with several years of supervisory experience with an understanding of human relations, training, performance evaluation, and health and safety.
  • Be commercially astute, you will be a savvy negotiator and mediator, capable of engendering an entrepreneurial spirit of cooperation and energising diverse teams to adopt best practice, while driving optimal performance with safety at the heart of everything we do. 
  • Be experienced in assembling and managing multi-phase project budgets, including risk contingencies.
  • Have advanced knowledge of various forms of vendor contracts across many types of goods and services; able to create new appropriate contracting frameworks and negotiate to successful conclusion. 
  • Be able to manage complex major project start-up, produce and communicate the project execution plan. 
  • Experience of implementing successful project performance improvement activities and techniques for recovering poor performance. 
  • Knowledge of supplier categorisation and experienced in devising appropriate commercial acquisition strategies. 
  • Understand the needs of effective Project Controls and Information Management and their requirements in the project phases (operation), internal (contractual, statutory) and asset (customer) documentation. 
  • Able to drive cash flow management as well as projection/forecast of cost at completion.
  • Be customer focused and an expert in stakeholder management, with an ability to develop sincere and open relationships, balancing with operational excellence to contribute to the competitive advantage of #teamwood.
