As a Nurse Practitioner at Acacia Prison, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality healthcare to approximately 1,350 inmates from diverse backgrounds and cultures. You'll lead with expertise, offering guidance and advice while assessing both internal and external factors to ensure our services meet the evolving needs of our patients.

As a Nurse Practitioner in the healthcare team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Provide risk assessment, information and support for patients referred to the service.
  • Provide support and orientation for new staff members.
  • Assist in the management of projects, participating in quality improvements and policy developments.
  • Carry out regular document reviews on individual patients and clinical documentation.
  • Manage change and be proactive in uncertain and unpredictable patient’s health situations and working efficiently within the constraints of correctional environments and increasing patient acuity

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Current Registration: Eligibility for registration as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Advanced Clinical Expertise: Strong skills in clinical assessment, care planning, and managing complex patient needs, particularly within a correctional or forensic setting.
  • Collaboration and Leadership: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and provide mentorship and leadership to colleagues.
  • Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards: Adherence to NMBA code of ethics, high professional standards, and compliance with Acacia Prison’s code of conduct and policies.
  • Problem-Solving and Adaptability: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage change effectively in unpredictable or challenging situations.
  • Effective Communication: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, essential for engaging with patients and colleagues.
