As a Maintenance Technician (Marine Mechanic) in the Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) team, you’ll make a positive impact by supporting the safe operation and maintenance of various sized vessels and equipment. This role is crucial to ensuring that our Defence clients can operate effectively and safely. You’ll work closely with the site management team and interact with a range of stakeholders, including other DMSS team members, Commonwealth representatives, and contractors.

 

As a Maintenance Technician (Marine Mechanic), you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Ensuring timely completion of work orders in line with your skills and qualifications
  • Assisting in vessel and equipment maintenance, including machinery spaces
  • Conducting repairs in areas such as diesel fitting, pneumatics, and electrical works
  • Providing Operator Level Maintenance (OLM) training to Commonwealth representatives
  • Liaising with suppliers, contractors, and vessel crews to ensure efficient asset delivery
  • Supporting general seamanship duties, including berthing and unberthing vessels

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Certificate III in Marine Mechanical Technology (or equivalent)
  • Extensive maritime industry experience
  • Current Forklift Operator’s Licence and Driver’s Licence (Class C)
  • Knowledge of Royal Australian Navy operating practices and procedures - desirable
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of Defence Security Clearance – Baseline.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) where required by the business.
