(Full-time 6-month fixed-term contract)


Overview of role

As a full-time teacher, the Exam Centre Coordinator plays a crucial role in teaching across ILSC’s language programs, (including on exam preparation courses where relevant), engaging ILSC students in their English language studies, and ensuring best practice in Learning & Teaching methodologies, classroom management, assessment, and use of educational technology. The Exam Centre Coordinator is a successful mediator between a descriptive curriculum and student goals and needs, supporting student academic progress and student satisfaction, ensuring academic integrity at all times, working collaboratively and constructively within the teaching and broader teams, completing all administrative and reporting tasks as required, and adhering to relevant ILSC Policies and Procedures.

 

In addition to their teaching, the Exam Centre Coordinator fulfills extra duties to further support the ILSC Exam Centre, exam preparation courses, and teachers and broader staff. The Exam Centre Coordinator is responsible for the administration and conduct of official examinations and pre-examinations, including supporting and guiding exam preparation teachers, encouraging student take-up of official exams, staying up to date with exam course needs, exam requirements, and exam centre registration, coordinating and guiding proctors, and liaising with official examination bodies.

 

The Exam Centre Coordinator will represent ILSC’s core values internally and externally, upholding a collaborative and supportive staffroom ethos, and participating actively in sector Communities of Practice and Special Interest Groups, such as the English Australia Assessment SIG and IATEFL TEASIG.


The Exam Centre Coordinator is supported by the ILSC Head Teachers, works within a team of national Exam Centre Coordinators, seeks guidance from the Director of Studies ILSC Brisbane & National Exam Centres, and reports to the local campus Director of Studies. The Exam Centre Coordinator is engaged under the terms of The National Employment Standards (NES) and the Educational Services (Post-Secondary Education) Award 2020.

 

Job Duties 

The Teacher duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:

 

  • Teach a variety of multimodal (face-to-face, online, and/or hybrid) ELICOS classes (teaching roster and total weekly hours to vary based on operational need but not to exceed 25 hours)
  • Work collaboratively with ILSC Head Teachers and other ILSC Teachers
  • Prepare and upload clear lesson plans prior to each lesson
  • Perform periodical analyses of student goals and needs against set learning outcomes
  • Embrace a principled communicative methodological approach
  • Engage students in their learning through a student-centred teaching philosophy
  • Enhance classroom learning and teaching by implementing new resources and technologies
  • Provide students with regular formative feedback including writing tasks and summative academic progress reports in accordance with ILSC guidelines
  • Be alert to and escalate student welfare concerns as appropriate
  • Complete all teaching-related admin accurately and within required deadlines
  • Attend and actively participate in Session Meetings & Professional Development Sessions
  • Actively contribute to ILSC’s positive learning ethos and inclusive, collegiate staffroom culture
  • Commit to reflective practice (self/peer observations, engaging with ELT literature and trends)
  • Participate in and represent ILSC in SIGs and CoPs
  • Other related duties or projects as determined by the campus Director of Studies

 

The Exam Centre Coordinator duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:

 

  • Work alongside the Director of Studies ILSC Brisbane & National Exam Centres, Director of Studies, National Director, fellow Exam Coordinators, Head Teachers and Students Services to ensure ILSC Australia takes a principled, thorough and aligned approach to all ILSC Exam Centre interactions and operations with students, examination bodies, and all other stakeholders
  • Regularly consult examination body guidelines, protocols and procedures, regulatory guides, best practice guides, literature and industry initiatives to ensure ILSC is a leader in international student exam implementation and integrity
  • With the Director of Studies ILSC Brisbane & National Exam Centres, schedule future ILSC exam preparation course intake dates in alignment with established official exam dates and confirm with National Director and Marketing Team
  • Assist Marketing and Sales Teams and Activities Coordinators in promoting exams and sittings
  • Liaise with relevant examination bodies and Sales & Marketing Teams regarding pre-testing opportunities, including bookings and associated administration, and promoting pre-tests to external candidates
  • Liaise with relevant examination bodies regarding all aspects of official testing, including the exam cycle, spatial requirements, special considerations, supervisory requirements, exam pre-ordering, exam administering, physical/digital exam storage and security, exam results and certificates, all relevant administrative documents, and promotional requirements
  • With the Director of Studies ILSC Brisbane & National Exam Centres, source, train and coordinate Exam Invigilators into official exam invigilation requirements
  • Train Exam Invigilators, Teachers and Student Services staff into examination day expectations, protocols and procedures, and ensure all invigilators and proctors complete regular training as required
  • With the Director of Studies ILSC Brisbane & National Exam Centres, source and schedule proctors, assessors and interlocutors as required for each exam sitting
  • Regularly ensure exam space and documents meet all relevant requirements and all protocols are followed for each exam sitting
  • Guide the Student Services Team in registering exam candidates, receiving and recording payments, and distributing receipts and certificates as appropriate
  • Be available some weekends if required for exam sittings
  • Record, maintain and feed back all relevant assessment data, including results, pass rates and breaches as appropriate
  • Prepare tailored course schedules for each exam course delivery, and support ILSC exam preparation teachers in their teaching of exam courses
  • Funnel teacher/course/assessment feedback through to the Global Curriculum Team for continuous improvement
  • Liaise with the Student Services Team on student coursebook requirements and with Resource Coordinator on teacher reference book and resource requirements
  • Liaise with publishing houses on new coursebook trials
  • Connect with industry colleagues, networks and SIGS (g. EA Assessment SIG, IATEFL TEASIG) across and beyond ILSC to pool knowledge and generate ideas and discussion on exam preparation courses and examination procedures
  • Participate in and represent ILSC in SIGs and CoPs
  • Other related duties or projects as determined by the campus Director of Studies and National Directors

 

Key Selection Criteria


Education and Experience

  • Recognised Bachelor’s degree(or equivalent)
  • Trinity CertTESOL, Cambridge CELTA, or Cert IV TESOL (or equivalent)
  • Excellent understanding of TESOL methodology, programs, and assessment practices
  • Experience teaching exam preparation courses
  • Experience in exam procedures (desirable)
  • Experience with online learning management systems and multimodal delivery
  • Demonstrated focus on continuous professional development(English Australia CPD Framework, IATEFL TEASIG and NEAS CPD Points highly regarded)
