Canterbury College is a high-performing, award-winning Anglican ELC to 12 school, serving the dynamic growth corridor of Logan, northern Gold Coast, the Scenic Rim and southern Brisbane.

Canterbury was established in 1987 as an academic school in the grammar school tradition. There is an unrelenting focus in the school on all-roundedness in our students, reflecting that academics, sport, performing arts, service and leadership are core dimensions of a Canterbury education.

To coincide with the opening of our brand-new K-3 Library space, which will become an integral part of our Junior School campus, we have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and passionate Teacher Librarian to join our dedicated teaching team on a permanent, part-time basis (0.6 FTE) commencing in 2025. 

Your role:

As the Teacher Librarian (K-3), you will be responsible for delivering high-quality information services and developing innovative library programs which cultivate a fundamental knowledge and passion for reading among students in Kindergarten through to Year 3. 

The Teacher Librarian will oversee the K-3 Library and will be responsible for implementing research skills development within classes and promoting reading and literature through targeted focus lessons.  This role will assist students to maximise their academic potential and develop reading as a core life skill, fostering their growth into lifelong learners.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Engage students through targeted focus lessons, promoting active participation in the learning process.
  • Develop strategies to cultivate a love of reading and literature for leisure among students.
  • Support and assist in incorporating innovations in curriculum, pedagogy, and digital technologies as they pertain to early literacy and a love of reading.
  • Plan collaboratively with year-level teachers to develop lesson content and skills, aligning with current units of inquiry.
  • Resource management of the K-3 library space. 
  • Take individual specialist library lessons for K to 3 classes and be involved in the literacy program.
  • Oversee the processing, classification, and cataloguing of new resources.
  • Ensure the day-to-day administration of the K-3 library is efficient and that systems, resources and equipment are well maintained.
  • Assist in the promotion and development of library awareness throughout the College, including meeting prospective parents and visitors.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A successful and proven record as an innovative Librarian and junior years Teacher with a love of literature.
  • Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver diverse teaching programs consistent with relevant syllabi.
  • Demonstrate teaching practices that reflect current innovative pedagogy in teaching and learning which advocates higher order questioning, critical and creative thinking and problem solving.
  • Strong knowledge of "Learn to Read".
  • Demonstrated ability to create supportive and challenging learning environments using inclusive teaching principles and technologies.
  • Current knowledge of teaching pedagogy, curriculum initiatives, and the use of learning technologies relating to the K-3 age group. 
  • Proficiency in using technology to support teaching and collaboration, including the College's LMS, Schoolbox, OneNote and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers to develop literature-based programs.
  • Proven ability to develop strong rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that are evident through effective communication across the College and building and maintaining constructive working relationships.
  • Demonstrate an ability to be proactive, resilient and able to work productively in a complex environment.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current QCT registration
  • Relevant degree in primary education 
  • ALIA accredited graduate or post graduate library and information qualification
