About the Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Shop Assistant to work at our Brisbane Immigration Detention Centre in Pinkenba. In this role, you will support the Canteen Coordinator to ensure smooth and efficient operations in the canteen. This is a full-time, permanent position, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend hours.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Utilising and understanding localised till sales point systems
  • Maintaining stock levels, replenishing, and cleaning sales areas as well as assisting in monthly stock takes.
  • Ensuring customers points are updated prior to recording sales and updating customers’ records to reflect accurate spend allowance.
  • Packing and recording of stock to deliver to customers in other secure locations.
  • Ensure compliance with Serco and DIBP/FDSP Codes of Conduct, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the shop is open for business at the required times and that excellent service is provided to all customers
  • Being efficient and organised with good’s receiving and handling invoices

About you

You are a dedicated and reliable individual with excellent customer service skills and a strong attention to detail. Your ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, coupled with your friendly and approachable demeanour, makes you an ideal candidate for this role. You are proactive, adaptable, and committed to maintaining high standards in all tasks, ensuring a positive experience for customers and colleagues alike.

Your ideal skills & experience 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Officer suite, particularly in Excel and Word
  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality customer service with a friendly and approachable demeanour
  • Strong ability to work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work environment
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities to manage various tasks and maintain a clean and orderly canteen
  • Excellent communication and numerical skills
  • Prior experience working in a canteen, cafeteria, or similar food service environment is highly desirable
