MQ Health is seeking Resident/ Senior Resident Medical Officers to join our Doctors in Training Program to provide clinical services and participate in the teaching and research environment of MQ Health. This role will ideally commence in November 2024 and see you through to 3 February 2025 to full-fill the clinical year. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to:

  • Be mentored and work alongside experienced clinicians in a diverse spectrum of Medical and Surgical specialities

  • Collaborate with groups across MQ Health to participate in research projects

  • Be exposed to a wide range of clinical conditions and treatment for these, including advanced procedural interventions

  • Supervise and train students and other Doctors in Training in collaboration with the Macquarie University Medical School

  • Contribute to educational activities with MQ Health

Rotation opportunities exist across the following terms:

  • General Practice

  • Cardiology

  • General Medicine (including Respiratory, Medical & Radiation Oncology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology)

  • General Surgery (including Upper GI and Colorectal)

  • Neurosurgery

  • Orthopaedics

  • Cardiothoracic / Vascular Surgery

  • Urology

  • ENT / Ophthalmology

  • ICU / Anaesthetics

  • Relief / Evenings

Every effort will be made to accommodate candidate rotation preferences – taking into consideration current training requirements, previous experience and demands of particular rotations. However, this is not a guarantee as it is dependent on the successful candidates.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic doctor who is committed to clinical care, education and research. You will be keen to work in an innovative multidisciplinary environment and be passionate about providing patient-centred care.

Key Accountabilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide clinical service within the scope of practice granted by the Advisory Committee and approved by the Board to patients of MUH and the Clinics.

  • Participate in and fulfil the duties and responsibilities as set out in the HETI term description provided for the term of the Internship.

  • Conduct initial assessment of patients including an accurately documented comprehensive patient history and, physical examination.

  • Formulate a management plan, order appropriate investigations in consultation with supervisors.

  • Coordinate and follow up of the patient’s management plan to ensure that it is carried out and assessing its outcome.

  • Communicate of the patient’s assessment and management plan with the medical staff and other members of the team providing care to the patient.

  • Communicate with the patient and their family/carers about their condition, assessments and management.

  • Review all pathology, radiology and other diagnostic reports and advise the registrar or consultant and/or take appropriate action.

  • Liaise and work effectively with allied health professionals involved in patient care including the broader care team.

  • Participate in Discipline/Program Morbidity and Mortality meetings and other meetings deemed compulsory by supervisor(s) or the Director of Medical Services

  • Participate in Discipline, Program, Hospital and MQ Health quality assurance and risk management projects.

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV [which should include 2 clinical referees] and a 1-2 page cover letter:

  • General registration as a medical practitioner in Australia (please upload AHPRA Certificate)

  • Completion of ALS2 desirable

  • Demonstrated understanding of the patient’s perspective and ability to communicate key information to the patient and carers

  • Demonstrated experience as a PGY2 doctor in basic procedural techniques such as intravenous cannulation and venesection.

  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude for one or more of the following activities: supervision of students; or delivery of educational activities; or research.

  • A strong commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and ability to work as part of a team.
