THE DEPARTMENT 

The physiotherapy service at Caulfield Hospital provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, health of older person/ GEM (Geriatric Evaluation and Management) and residential transitional care program (TCP). The physiotherapy team in the Health of Older Person stream work within a wide variety of teams across multiple settings, including the GEM (Geriatric Evaluation and Management)/ slow stream rehabilitation inpatient wards, specialist delirium and dementia unit, Better at Home service, Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) general medicine ward and the Transition Care Program amongst other services. The Health of Older Person (HOP) stream is a large and diverse team of 16 Physiotherapists and AHAs with a great supportive and collaborative culture and clinical expertise in a broad number of areas. At large, the Alfred Health physiotherapy team includes 170 people across three sites at The Alfred Hospital, Sandringham hospital as well as Caulfield Hospital. The service provides opportunities in many different clinical areas, as well as extensive support for those wishing to develop their leadership, research, teaching, digital health, and quality improvement skills. 

THE ROLE 

  • The Grade 2 Physiotherapist (Health of Older Person) works across the stream in various locations listed above and will carry a full clinical caseload in the designated area. Grade 2 staff rotate throughout the various areas of the HOP stream
  • The Grade 2 physiotherapist provides leadership and support to the grade 1s, AHAs, and student coaching/teaching as required;  
  • The Grade 2 physiotherapist is a highly valued member of the multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively to achieve the best outcomes for their patients 
  • They work closely with the Stream Grade 3 and Stream Leaders on projects, continuous improvement, staff training/competency, and/or research;  
  • While the position is full time, we may accomodate flexible working arrangements or smaller EFT for the right candidate

The ideal candidate:  

  • You have a passion to work with the older person and their families to facilitate the best possible outcome for their health and quality of life across the health care continuum. 
  • You have great problem-solving skills and have a broad and solid theoretical knowledge and clinical background in areas including gerontology, cardiorespiratory, orthopaedics and neurological rehabilitation. 
  • You understand and appreciate the complex assessment, management and discharge planning of the older person and preferably have experience working within a multidisciplinary team in the public health setting 
  • You are keen to sink your teeth into service improvements, quality projects, or clinical research as you see fit; and  
  • You love sharing your skills and experience with Grade 1s, students and AHAs.  

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • AHPRA registration as a Physiotherapist; 
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and manage a caseload, including the co-ordination of other staff; 
  • Demonstrated communication skills and time management skills
  • Leadership qualities
