THE ROLE

We have a number of exciting Full-time positions for suitably experienced Registered Nurses to work in our Neurosurgery/Neurology Ward at Macquarie University Hospital.

About You:

Reporting to Nursing Unit Manager (Acute Care), the successful candidate will have sound clinical nursing skills, a strong patient focus, and enthusiasm for working in a team. You will be passionate about nursing clinical excellence, innovation and professional development. This role is also suitable for a nurse who has recently completed their graduate year. Your ability to work in a fast-paced environment that values team work and commitment will set you up towards success in this role.

Neurosurgery at Macquarie University Hospital is one of our signature specialties. Boasting one of the largest cohorts of academic neurosurgeons in the country, you will be working alongside experts who are dedicated to not only perfecting their clinical and neurosurgical skills, but also educating future neurosurgical health care professionals.

As well as valuing education, this academic institution undertakes leading breakthrough research in the area of neurology and neurosurgery. With subspecialty interests in vascular neurosurgery, complex spine surgery, tumours, and syringomyelia and Chiari malformation, you will be exposed to the gamut of complex neurosurgery.

Holding regular multidisciplinary meetings where teams discuss cases and consider possible alternatives, our staff are encouraged to participate making informed decision for patients in a collaborative way. Working in Ward 2 will provide Registered Nurse’s a space to utilise and further develop knowledge and skills in a rich and learning environment.

Key Accountabilities of the role include (not limited to):

  • Provides care in accordance with documented care or treatment plans while prioritizing workload based on patient needs, acuity and optimal time for intervention

  • Ensures that all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with MQ Health Policy

  • Participate in the identification, design and implementation of quality improvement activities, including policy review and development, self-initiated and directed by other members of MQ Health

  • Maintains good customer relations in a way that acknowledges dignity, culture, values, beliefs and the rights of individuals and groups

  • Adopts a consultative approach within a multi-disciplinary work environment whilst ensuring the patient’s duty of care is fulfilled

  • Ensures all mandatory education and competencies are completed in a timely manner

  • Demonstrates a willingness to work positively within a team to achieve team goals and the provision of excellence in care/service delivery

  • Participates in and contributes to occupational health and safety activities to ensure a safe work environment for clients, community, staff and visitors

  • Evaluates performance in a planned and systematic way and seeks feedback from customers in relation to the service delivered by the unit.

To Apply:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse

  • Previous experience in an acute setting is highly desirable

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Flexibility with roster and shift availabilities

  • Well-developed technology skills including the use of electronic medical records systems, MQ Word, Excel and web-based research

  • Competence in assessing, planning and implementing preventative care approaches to health care

  • Proven ability to establish professional relationships with peers and clients using a customer-service focus

  • Strong time management skills required to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment

  • Critical thinking skills, initiative, and ability to work independently and within a team

  • Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

  • Immunisation screening

  • Valid Working with Children Check

  • Criminal History Check
