About the role

Breast cancer is one of the most common causes of cancer deaths in women and increases in frequency with age. One in 11 South Australian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer before the age of 75 years.

BreastScreen SA provides approximately 100,000 screening mammograms each year. Of those women screened, around 5% will be recalled to the service’s dedicated Assessment Clinic for the investigation of a screen-detected abnormality.

BSSA employs a small number of Nurses to provide information, education, support, and counselling to clients throughout their screening and assessment journey, from booking an initial appointment through to receiving and understanding results.

RN1

  • Employees classified at this level provide nursing services in health service settings.
  • Employees working within this level develop from novice practitioners to a proficient level of professional practice. They consolidate knowledge and skills and develop in capability through continuous professional development and experience.
  • An employee at this level accepts accountability for his or her own standards of nursing/midwifery care and for activities delegated to others

RN2

  • Clinical Nurses have developed from competent to proficient practitioners.
  • Clinical Nurses accept accountability for own practice standards, activities delegated to others and the guidance and development of less experienced staff.
  • The Clinical Nurse role is predominantly clinical in nature; however, employees are assigned appropriate portfolios. The allocation of portfolio responsibilities will be negotiated with each employee and be consistent with the career development plan for the employee as determined by their performance review/development plan.
