POST-GRADUATE Perioperative Program: Werribee Mercy Hospital. 2025

Employment Type: Fixed Term Part-time - 12 months (Feb 2025 - Feb 2026)

Hours: 32hrs / week Monday to Sunday: Shift hours: initially Monday - Friday AM and PM shifts, progressing to a 24/7 roster, including on-call.

Based on individual assessments, post-graduate students will be well supported to advance to on-call, night-duty and weekend shifts when deemed clinically competent to work independently within the chosen perioperative stream or streams.

Salary: As per Nursing / Midwifery EBA/Award

Location: Werribee Mercy Hospital - Operating Theatres.

About the opportunity

Werribee Mercy Hospital offers a light & bright operating suite complex with 6 modern operating rooms, a state of the art central sterilizing department and 12 bay post-anaesthetic care unit. The theatre complex is located on Level 3 of the Catherine McAuley Building, Werribee Mercy Hospital

The team has a strong commitment to education and is partnering with Deakin University to support successful applicants achieve post-graduate qualifications in perioperative nursing. 

We are looking for enthusiastic Registered Nurses, who want a career in Perioperative Nursing and willing to undertake graduate certificate studies, to join our well established, stable and very happy team. You will be supported clinically, whilst completing your studies, by experienced perioperative educators and nurses, keen to share their knowledge and help you achieve your professional goals.

  • The role of the Post-Graduate Registered Nurse is to provide quality client-focused care to the patient, their family and carers utilizing a holistic approach. The Registered Nurse Division 1 will act as a role model and practice within the core values of Mercy Health.

  • Gain invaluable hands-on experience and knowledge with the support from our dedicated Education Team

We are very excited to offer 3 placements for the 2025 post-graduate perioperative program. The 3 successful applicants will be able to select from the following streams to achieve post-graduate certification

  • Certificate in Perioperative Nursing
  • Certificate in Perioperative Nursing (Perianaesthesia)*
  • Certificate in Perioperative Nursing (Intraoperative)*

Application to Deakin University will occur following successful appointment for the 2025 post-graduate program at WMH, Perioperative Department.

All domestic applicants that meet the admission requirements and submit the required documentation will be offered a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) for the course.

To thrive in this role, you will be:

  • Registered Nurse, Division 1 with a current AHPRA registration
  • Completed (or in the process of completing) a Nurse Graduate year

  • Possess a genuine interest in Perioperative Nursing

  • A current Police Record Check and Working with Children Check.

  • Current COVID-19 certificate, proof of current influenza vaccination and other vaccination status consistent with public health orders.
