About the role:

With some of the country’s highest levels of urban social disadvantage characterised by homelessness, chronic mental illness, substance misuse and other complex general health needs, St Vincent's Mental Health Service provides a comprehensive range of services and interventions.

We deliver a spectrum of services utilising models of care to best support consumers and carers in a recovery focused and strengths orientated framework.

A unique opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the Community Mental Health Team.

The primary responsibility of the Mental Health Worker is to provide support to individuals with multiple complex needs including mental illness, drug and alcohol issues and homelessness. As a Mental Health Worker you will be working with the individual consumer, their family and carers, and their support network in the community in a recovery framework.

About you:

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team made up of mental health professionals, a health education officer and peer support workers. You will provide a range of mental health, medical and psychosocial support based on each individuals needs. You will work closely with other community organisations to ensure our clients have the support they deserve in the community.

You will work with clients to explore their strengths and address any obstacles to achieving goals, large and small. We look to increase social connections, explore opportunities to return to work or study, enhance daily skills to support and create balance and meaning.

Selection Criteria:
1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia
2. Current registration with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

3. Extensive demonstrated experience working within a Community Mental Health Position as part of a multidisciplinary health care team
4. Demonstrated ability to deliver high quality consumer care and services to support families and carers of people with mental illness
5. Commitment to provision of recovery-focused holistic mental health interventions.
6. Excellent computer, written, and verbal communication skills, and effective interpersonal and organisational skills, including using an electronic medical record system.
7. Demonstrated experience within a mental health acute care and/or triage setting
8. Current unrestricted NSW Drivers Licence
