Job Description

At Hail Creek, everything we do is about developing our people, optimising our asset and improving our future. We positively impact our people and communities. We strive to be industry leaders – the Mine of Choice.  It’s a culture that fosters pragmatic outcomes where things happen quickly. We promote those ‘out of the box’ ideas to continuously improve and no day is ever the same.  With a large and passionate workforce of over 1,000 people, there is a great opportunity for you to contribute and make an impact.

As a successful candidate in the Medium-Term space, you will have the opportunity to refine and optimise the current mine plan all the way from conceptual stages through to implementation as well as gain exposure to the longer-term Budget and Life of Mine planning processes. You and your team will be responsible for delivering stage plans, schedules and ensuring that the operation’s longer-term visions can be realised.

The scope of Hail Creek’s mining methodology is extensive with four active mining areas, varied mining methods (steep and shallow dipping seams), Dragline operations and multiple working plies. A medium-term engineer is able to gain exposure to all these areas, while working with the CHPP and Logistics teams to deliver best value for business and fast-track one’s own skill development.

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mining/Civil or related field)

  • Proficiency in Mine Design and Scheduling packages (such as Vulcan, Deswik, Spry or similar)

  • Minimum of two years relevant experience

Just as importantly, we’ve worked hard to make sure you feel valued. In return, here are just some of the benefits we offer:

  • Direct employment with Glencore – we are a responsible miner of coal that has a track record of operational excellence

  • A competitive package with lifestyle benefits

  • Annual short term performance bonus

  • Above award Annual Leave entitlement

  • Access to Coal Mining Industry Long Service Leave - one of the most generous long service leave schemes

  • Provision for Education Assistance if you are wanting to further your studies down the track.

This role is a wonderful opportunity for you no matter your circumstance. You will have the option to either live locally in one of the communities that surround our operation or stay on site in our amazing village. We are only a one and quarter hour drive from the beautiful Mackay hinterland and a two- and half-hour drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands and have a diverse group of people at our operation commuting from multiple locations in Queensland such as Rockhampton and Townsville, to name a few. The Successful candidate will have the option to work a compressed 9 day-fortnight flexible work arrangement.

Our people think and act like entrepreneurs.  We have built a culture that rewards dedicated people with a can-do spirit, who take responsibility, and who have the drive to be leaders in their field.  If you are caring, responsive, intuitive, and driven, and can operate within a dynamic environment, this is your chance to become part of a culture that empowers people and drives progression.
