The Project

 

At John Holland in partnership with McConnell Dowell (Joint Venture) are delivering the Kidston Pumped Storage Hydro Project in Far North Queensland. This is an innovative project that involves the world-first conversion of a disused gold mine into a pumped storage hydroelectric power generation facility in far-north Queensland (270km NW of Townsville).

The project will see the conversion of two existing mine pits into reservoirs, involving the construction of significant underground infrastructure including a large powerhouse cavern and waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between upper and lower reservoirs to generate power during peak periods and return water back to the upper reservoir during off peak periods.


 

The Opportunity

 

The Kidston hydro Program team are currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to join the team, based in Kidston QLD.

 

The role will be to lead and coordinate multiple teams and subcontractors to achieve positive outcomes. 

 

  • Contribute to development of work methods and plan daily/weekly production work.
  • Build strong internal and external stakeholder management through positive, proactive and professional communication to keep key personnel informed.
  • Complete progress reporting, and activities, reports for shift handovers and consistent regular reporting to the Superintendent or Project Manager
  • Ensure compliance of commercial and financial costs including budgets
  • Provide and take leadership responsibility in health, safety and environmental management.
  • Read and understand plans, review design documentation, read drawings, and provide constructive review and implementation of final designs
  • Identify and mitigate risks prior to works commencing, communicate with and engage relevant stakeholders to control risk and contribute to build a risk management culture.
  • Select, train and develop leading hands and ensure the observance of safety, other work standards and fair and reasonable application of industrial agreements.


To Be sucessful in the role:

 

  • Experience working in a Leading Hand position, ready to step up in a Supervisor position. 
  • A minimum of 2-5 years previous Mechanical construction experience in a similar role.
  • Experience or exposure managing non-Mechanical trades and subcontractors
  • Skill in review of design documents, ability to understand drawings, provide constructability review and implement final design plans.
  • People and Performance Management of subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
