CSA Mine is one of Australia’s longest operating copper mines with a history stretching back almost 150 years. At 1.9 kilometers deep, CSA is the second deepest copper mine in Australia and the third highest copper grade in the world. Located near the NSW town of Cobar, CSA Mine employs around 550 people and produces approximately 40,000 tonnes of copper concentrate per year. The ore is mined and processed on site and then transported by rail 700km to the Port of Newcastle for export. CSA Mine was acquired by Metals Acquisition Limited in June 2023.

Job Description

CSA Mine is seeking an experienced Leading Hand Mechanical Tradesperson to become an integral part of our Mechanical Maintenance team.  As a Leading Hand, you will contribute to a safe and efficient team environment, while delivering vital, high quality maintenance solutions. This role would suit a tradesperson wanting to take the next step in their career, with demonstrated leadership qualities and a dedication to working safely with continuous improvement. This role places you right in the heart of one of the world’s most acclaimed mining areas, which boasts the nations second-highest grade copper mine.  Your contributions will be key in maintaining the exceptional standards of this globally renowned mining region.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Servicing and maintenance - strip downs, rebuilds and fault finding on fixed plant equipment
  • Ensuring that underground fixed plant mechanical checks are completed as per site and legislative requirements
  • Assisting with the planning and development of new “SafeWork” housekeeping and maintenance practices
  • Assisting with the development and implementation of preventative maintenance schedules, planning and executing shutdown work
  • Assisting with execution of the weekly maintenance activities
  • Providing input into the development of the annual plant maintenance budget and long-medium term maintenance plan
  • Assisting with the review of the two-weekly work plan to determine and approve the weekly maintenance work plan
  • Additional tasks as required by the supervisor

Qualifications

About you:

  • Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Mechanical Fitting or Metal and Fabrication Trade Certificate
  • Working at Heights, Confined Space, Crane, Dogging, Forklift and EWP Tickets (desirable but not essential)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ mining mechanical experience
  • Underground crushing, hoisting, dewatering, ventilation and refrigeration experience
  • Experience with preventative maintenance procedures
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills
  • SAP system skills highly advantageous
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Ability to communicate effectively and solve problems unsupervised within a team environment

Conditions

This is a 7/7 day shift roster - offered on a residential or drive-in drive-out (DIDO) basis. If residential is the preferred commute option 12 weeks of transit accommodation, relocation costs and a housing subsidy will be provided to assist you in relocating to Cobar. Candidates interested in DIDO will be provided with commute single accommodation and meals at the mine camp. CSA also provides Pool & Gym Reimbursements to our employees and their dependants.

Located an eight-hour drive to Sydney, nine-hour drive to Melbourne, and a quick three-hour drive to Dubbo, Cobar is a fascinating town rich in mining heritage and natural attractions.
