we, at Community Solutions are seeking candidates for a 4 year apprenticeship with a large site based organisation in Townsville. The successful candidate will have passion for this industry,  be prepared to work in a high end safety-first environment and committed to complete the full term of this apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship will involve:    

  • Maintenance of plant and equipment
  • Repair of equipment and machines
  • Repair and replacement of components, parts or other items
  • Design modifications to existing components
  • Welding and fabrication operations
  • Safe use of measuring equipment, hand tools, welding & cutting equipment, metal forming & shaping machines, grinders, etc
  • Daily physical exertion such as bending, twisting, climbing, lifting, pulling or pushing heavy materials

Our host business Sun Metals, is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High-Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. The refining process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting, with the products then being sold to both domestic and international markets.

Requirements:

  • Manual Driver’s licence and reliable transport
  • Construction White Card, or willing to obtain
  • Have a sound understanding and knowledge of the trade
  • Work experience or Certificate II Engineering is advantageous
  • Understand the importance of workplace health and safety
  • Have strong communication skills
  • Display an eagerness to work and highly motivated
  • Have good hand-eye coordination
  • Confident use of hand and power tools, welding and drilling machines
  • Ability to comply with drug and alcohol testing requirements, prior to commencement and during employment.

Community Solutions is a non-for-profit organisation operating as a commercial business, providing apprentices and trainees to a variety of different businesses throughout Queensland. We provide apprentices and trainees important career guidance and opportunity to earn while they learn. Dedicated Field Officers are assigned to apprentices and trainees to provide ongoing support to completing their chosen trade qualification.

Formally TORGAS. In July 2015, TORGAS joined Community Solutions Group. Over this time, Community Solutions have aligned services and goals and we are now evolving the TORGAS brand, joining completely with Community Solutions as one brand. As an independent provider of choice, our innovative employment, training, and NDIS services continue to make possibilities a reality
