Important Information

  • St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne (SVHM) is actively recruiting for PGY2 positions, meeting the requirements of the NFPMT Pathway guidelines.
  • Applications for the ‘Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY2) including Rural Generalist Year 2 (RG2)' will open on Monday, 12th August and close Friday, 30th August. Unfortunately, late applications will not be accepted.
  • Shortlisted candidates who are successful for interview will be contacted by email to invite them to interview
  • Successful candidates will commence their post with SVHM on Monday 5th February 2024

About the Role

The Australian Medical Council (AMC) has developed a revised National Framework for Prevocational Medical Training (National Framework) for implementation across Australia. The National Framework (NFPMT) aims to provide a generalist longitudinal experience for prevocational training that is consistent nationwide. All PGY2 positions will now fall within this framework.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to preference rotations that meet the Victorian PGY2 Program Guidelines, providing exposure to Clinical Experience A (Undifferentiated Illness Patient Care), B (Chronic Illness Patient Care) and C (Acute and Critical Illness Patient Care) in a setting of a generalist approach to the year.

Rotations will include, however not limited to General Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine, Dermatology, Rehabilitation, Neurology.

Please note that most PGY2s will have a roster which includes rotations outside our Fitzroy campus. These may include rotations at Swan Hill, Werribee, PMCC and Warrnambool Hospital.

Classification for these positions is HM12 ($88,397.40)

About PMCV Computer Matching Process

  • Our PGY2 positions are subject to the state-wide Computer Matching process, conducted by the Post Graduate Medical Council of Victoria (PMCV). The rules for PGY2 eligibility and matching to all the hospitals in Victoria are governed by PMCV in conjunction with the Victorian Government funding body, Department of Health.

Selection Procedures

  • Candidates applying to SVHM will be ranked on the basis of their written application, referee reports and personal interview.
  • SVHM will conduct 15-20 minute personal interviews with shortlisted candidates prior to making offers. Interview requests will be sent to shortlisted candidates via email.
  • Candidates will be interviewed by a panel including a clinician and MWU/HR representative.
  • The Computer Matching process sorts the Hospital's ranking of candidates with the candidates' preference of Hospital.
