Saint Stephen’s College is seeking expressions of interest from outstanding and enthusiastic secondary teachers to join our team, commencing in 2025 in fulltime, permanent roles.

Secondary teachers with suitable qualifications are encouraged to apply:

• Legal Studies (with ability to teach English, Geography or Humanities advantageous)

• Spanish

In addition, the College is seeking expressions of interest from teachers with teaching experience in one or more of the following combinations:

  • Health and Physical Education, Senior Physical Education, Mathematics and Science.

Teachers at Saint Stephen’s College are expected to be experts of their academic disciplines and well-informed classroom practitioners. High levels of enthusiasm and a genuine love of children underpin these expectations. The main focus is to continuously seek to maximise the learning outcomes for students through quality teaching, training and coaching, with an emphasis on intentional teaching and blended learning.

General Duties

This position is responsible for, but not limited to;

  • Planning, preparing and delivering quality and effective teaching and learning programs which are consistent with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers and in keeping with the relevant syllabuses, curriculum policies and work programs for the position / department they work in
  • Maintaining teaching competency and currency of knowledge of relevant curriculum programs
  • Supporting students through interaction with them in a variety of settings and through the active development of supportive learning environments and effective behaviour management practices
  • Providing for the physical, social, cultural and emotional wellbeing and physical safety of students whilst at the College and enhancing their overall development towards effective citizenship and responsible adulthood through participation in extracurricular activities
  • Assessing students for developmental, feedback and reporting purposes
  • Maintaining student records and reporting on student performance
  • Participating in the collaborative development and evaluation of curriculum and regularly monitoring the effectiveness of the learning/teaching program
  • Establishing and maintaining appropriate interpersonal relationships
  • Engaging in professional, reflective learning opportunities such as coaching and team meetings
  • Participating, as appropriate, in school decision making processes and professional development
  • Participate and attend College events, parent nights, sports fixtures etc as and when required.

Teamwork and Communication

  • Demonstrate a willingness to work positively within a team as well as having the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrate and practice effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication.
  • Excellent personal organisation, planning and time management skills including the ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Genuine commitment to the ideals of independent schools, including the preparedness to attend extracurricular activities, as appropriate to the role.
  • Commitment to work within and support the Christian ethos, mission and values of the College.
  • Demonstrate passion, energy, enthusiasm and commitment towards the role and the College.
  • Ability to work harmoniously to achieve an organisation-wide vision, as set by the College leadership and Board.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education or a degree / qualification with a Postgraduate Teaching Qualification
  • Current Queensland College of Teachers Registration
  • Excellent knowledge and experience teaching in primary and secondary years, and a thorough understanding of the Australian Curriculum, with proven effectiveness benchmarked against the AITSL Professional Standards for Teachers;.
  • Excellent knowledge of the current directions in teaching and learning and a thorough understanding of the Australian Curriculum.
  • Appropriate ICT skills and a preparedness to integrate ICT skills into the learning process through Blended Learning;
  • Demonstrated experience, understanding and competence in blended learning with the ability to differentiate teaching programs to enhance student learning in the classroom and beyond;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Online Learning Environments /Learning Management Systems to develop and deliver rich online course resources.

All employees of Saint Stephen’s College are required to:

  • Carry out other duties as required by the Principal
  • Demonstrate, follow and support the policies and procedures of the College
  • Maintain a degree of flexibility in working hours from time to time as required for the position
  • Accept that the College reserves the right to modify the position to meet its operating needs
  • Undertake other reasonable and relevant duties within skills, knowledge and capabilities and as directed by the Principal or their representative
  • Comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, codes of practice and other safety guidance material.
