About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic team leading our approach to the provision of quality care to clients of the PANDA Unit. PANDA Unit is an inpatient ward for people presenting with or experiencing alcohol and other drug intoxication or behavioral disturbance, together with co-existing medical, drug and alcohol, toxicological and/or mental health issues. PANDA has a vision to create accessible, safe and compassionate care for the most vulnerable members of Sydney’s community.

Within PANDA exists a part-time Clinical Nurse Educator vacancy for a highly motivated Registered Nurse with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant will be expected to be able to:

  • Work to develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of nursing and other clinical staff in the clinical environment of St Vincent’s Public Hospital.

  • Asses, develop and evaluate the clinical education needs of staff in the clinical environment including Cardiac Monitoring, Withdrawal Management, Aggression Management and Verbal De-escalation, Recognizing Clinical Deterioration, Mandatory reporting and other Mental Health and AOD issues. Working with the Nursing Unit Manager, Clinical Nurse Consultants and Stream Manager to identify these needs.

  • Ensure all permanent and transient staff have adequate access clinical resources relevant to the requirements of psychiatric and drug and alcohol patients.

  • Provide ongoing clinical support on the floor and orientate new staff in the clinical environment.

Selection Criteria

1. Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

2. Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency

3. Relevant clinical or education post-graduate qualifications and at least 12 months experience working in the relevant clinical area related to their qualifications, or four years post-registration experience including three years’ experience in the relevant specialist field

4. Demonstrated knowledge of innovative educational strategies, tools and approaches including e-learning

5. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team and demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills

6. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and demonstrated computer literacy with email and an electronic patient record system

7. Certificate IV in workplace training and education or willingness to undertake within the first 12 months of employment
